Schreven's will be team to beat!
We did some questions to top couple Thomas Schreven and Jasmina Glad-Schreven
You are the most serious and succesfull swimrun-team we know from Finland. What of your achievements in swimrunning are you most proud of?
Definitely 1000 lakes in Germany in October 2016. It was a race where we were not physically 100% in shape as we got a baby 3 months earlier but it was a race were willpower (sisu) and determination were crucial. It was probably the coldest conditions in the history of swimrunning. We have always liked Utö course very much (maybe because we did our first ever swimrun there in 2013 and won) and we usually perform well on that fast and diverse course.
And what are your goals for this season?
We aim on having a solid season with good performances but we of course feel like to have `revenge´ after we had to abandon the race in the leading position due to an injury
How did you ended up doing specifically swimrun?
After competing in Ironman, we got tired of biking and were looking for something closer to nature. Thomas was looking for something tough and challenging for us to do and he found Utö swimrun. We signed up and raced like clueless chickens in 0.5mm wetsuits. We loved it and rest is history.
What are your expectations for Porkkala swimrun this year? And do you have some good advice for the race?
We are very excited to be racing in Porkkala as it´s a very unique race course and stunning nature just on our back yard. We are aiming for a solid performance in the middle of a very heavy training period.
The course is partly very technical so it´s important to take it easy and be careful on the entries and exits. Remember that the race is long so make sure to pace yourself right and not go too fast in the beginning. Most of all, we advice everybody to enjoy the unique race course!
